The evocative title of this album transports us right into the creation process of these recordings: Katrin Frauchiger and Michael Beck embarked on a long journey and research for an independent musical language "between" their different stylistic origins, into which the diverse experiences of both musicians and their individual attitudes flow.
The duo interprets standards by composers such as Cole Porter, Kurt Weill and Duke Ellington with their own sound, authentic expression, improvisational freedom and immediacy. 11 sophisticated songs were selected which inspire through lyrical phrasing and an extraordinary melodic-harmonic context. Frauchiger / Beck intensively explored the technically demanding original versions as well as the countless reinterpretations by various jazz protagonists. In the introspective chamber music dialog of this duo, listening on several levels and subtle interplay are of the utmost importance. In their interpretations, Frauchiger / Beck extract the emotion and motivation from the time when these songs were written and transport them into an expression of our present.
