The Hawks Triad

The Hawks Triad is a Swiss–Argentine jazz-rock trio based in Winterthur, Switzerland. The group was founded in Belgrade, Serbia, in the summer of 2021 by Swiss drummer Adrian Böckli and Argentine composer and multi-instrumentalist Luciano Ponzano. The lineup is completed by bassist Gregory Schärer from Lucerne, Switzerland.

Since officially forming in February 2022, the trio has released two albums. Their debut, Dorcol Tapes (2022), features five original compositions recorded between Belgrade and Winterthur. The record explores a fusion of jazz and progressive rock enriched by African rhythmic influences.

Following a summer tour across Switzerland, the band released their second album, Carnivale (Unit Records, 2023). On this release, they expanded their sonic palette, incorporating elements of Americana, surf rock, and indie music into their jazz-driven approach.

Throughout 2024 and 2025, The Hawks Triad further developed its sound through extensive touring across Europe, with performances in Switzerland and Germany, as well as a two-week Balkan tour spanning Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia.

Their third album, Orillas (AMP Music & Records, 2026), presents seven new original compositions that not only reflect but expand the broader musical landscapes the trio has been exploring since Carnivale. With a strong melodic identity influenced by Middle Eastern traditions—particularly Lebanese music—the album blends Brazilian rhythms, Argentine folklore, and Balkan elements with jazz, rock, and North African grooves, occasionally layered with the reverb-drenched textures of surf rock.

The result is a rich, genre-defying sound that resists easy categorization. What remains constant, however, is the trio’s commitment to evolution—creating music that transcends borders while continuing to surprise and engage listeners.

The Hawks Triad ist ein schweizerisch-argentinisches Jazz-Rock-Trio mit Sitz in Winterthur, Schweiz. Die Gruppe wurde im Sommer 2021 in Belgrad, Serbien, vom Schweizer Schlagzeuger Adrian Böckli und dem argentinischen Komponisten und Multiinstrumentalisten Luciano Ponzano gegründet. Komplettiert wird das Trio durch den Bassisten Gregory Schärer aus Luzern, Schweiz.

Seit der offiziellen Gründung im Februar 2022 hat das Trio zwei Alben veröffentlicht. Ihr Debüt Dorcol Tapes (2022) umfasst fünf Originalkompositionen, die zwischen Belgrad und Winterthur aufgenommen wurden. Das Album erforscht eine Fusion aus Jazz und Progressive Rock, bereichert durch afrikanische rhythmische Einflüsse.

Nach einer Sommertournee durch die Schweiz veröffentlichte die Band ihr zweites Album Carnivale (Unit Records, 2023). Auf dieser Veröffentlichung erweiterten sie ihr klangliches Spektrum und integrierten Elemente aus Americana, Surf Rock und Indie in ihren jazzgeprägten Ansatz.

In den Jahren 2024 und 2025 entwickelte The Hawks Triad seinen Sound durch umfangreiche Tourneen in ganz Europa weiter, mit Konzerten in der Schweiz und Deutschland sowie einer zweiwöchigen Balkantour durch Slowenien, Kroatien, Bosnien und Serbien.

Ihr drittes Album Orillas (AMP Music & Records, 2026) präsentiert sieben neue Originalkompositionen, die nicht nur die musikalischen Landschaften widerspiegeln, die das Trio seit Carnivale erkundet, sondern diese auch erweitern. Mit einer starken melodischen Identität, die von nahöstlichen Traditionen – insbesondere der libanesischen Musik – geprägt ist, verbindet das Album brasilianische Rhythmen, argentinische Folklore und balkanische Elemente mit Jazz, Rock und nordafrikanischen Grooves, teilweise ergänzt durch die hallgetränkten Klangfarben des Surf Rock.

Das Ergebnis ist ein vielschichtiger, genreübergreifender Sound, der sich einer einfachen Kategorisierung entzieht. Konstant bleibt jedoch das Bestreben des Trios, sich weiterzuentwickeln und Musik zu schaffen, die Grenzen überschreitet und das Publikum immer wieder überrascht und fesselt.

La formation est complétée par le bassiste Gregory Schärer, originaire de Lucerne, en Suisse.

Le résultat est un son riche et inclassable qui échappe aux catégories traditionnelles. Ce qui demeure constant, cependant, c’est la volonté du trio d’évoluer, en créant une musique qui transcende les frontières tout en continuant à surprendre et captiver le public.
