Is there a connection between the forest and music? Woodpeckerz asks this question - and listens to the sounds of the forest, the rustling and chirping - goes right into the middle of interwoven grooves, cyclical song forms and deep layers. The natural interplay of bluesy guitar, multi-faceted bass and groovy drums resembles a symbiosis of plants, mushrooms and animals of the forest.
In the lively original compositions grows the question of protection and importance of the ecosystem and the role of man intervening in nature. In addition, it is also about the Wood Wide Web, about climbing a mountain and the negative sides of hunting. Admiring as well as ironic reflections on forest inhabitants such as birds, insects or sloths blossom as the three musicians make their way through the thicket of inspirations and interactions.

The Nuremberg trio "Woodpeckerz" consisting of Alex Bayer on double bass, Hannes Stegmeier on guitar and Matthis Wilting on drums presents its first album with "Forest", in which it deals extensively with the topic of the forest.
In this band all three characters bring in their personal style - from contemporary and improvised music to blues and rock influences an innovative soundscape is created. The songs of the album are varied and offer many impressive experiences like a walk through the woods. "Wood Wide Web" is about the networked communication paths of plants and mushrooms in the forest. The wild riffs and signals sent out in fractions of a second lead into a rocking groove that resembles a busy information highway! In the piece "Cycle" the listener walks through the forest, it rustles and cracks everywhere and out of nowhere a melody resounds back like an echo. A repeating rhythm can be heard as if in an eternal cycle. In the piece "King" a wren sings its breathtakingly fast and rhythmic verses in the midst of an entire bird concert, while in "The Sloth" the slow motions of a sloth meet the unexpectedly hectic environment. The ballad "The Sleeping Tree" is about the tree that closes its leaves at night, called silk tree, or in Persian "Shabkhosb" ("Night Sleeper"), in Japanese "Nemunoki" ("Sleeping Tree"). Shrill guitars, hectic bass runs and wild drum cascades can be heard in "hunt", in which men hunting animals is the subject. It gets quieter in "in the ground" with sounds muffled as if in the soil, before guitar, bass and drums play interlocked rhythms in "symbiosis", which support and sustain each other like life in a symbiosis. All the players benefit from this, the interplay explodes and flows in an energetic groove! "Green" enthuses about the beauty of the forest, the many shades of green of the canopy of leaves, the peace and the meditative carpet of sound, which can only be found there.

In dieser Band bringen sich alle drei Charaktere mit ihrem persönlichen Stil ein - von zeitgenössischer und improvisierter Musik bis Blues und Rock-Einflüssen wird eine innovative Klangkulisse geschaffen. Die Songs des Albums sind abwechslungsreich und bieten viele eindrückliche Erlebnisse wie bei einem Spaziergang durch den Wald. Im „Wood Wide Web“ geht es um die vernetzten Kommunikationswege der Pflanzen und Pilze im Wald. Die wilden Riffs und in Sekunden-Bruchteilen ausgesendeten Signale münden in einen rockigen Groove, der einer ausgelasteten Datenautobahn gleicht! In dem Stück „Cycle“ läuft der Zuhörer durch den Wald, es raschelt und knackt überall und aus dem Nichts ertönt eine Melodie, die wie ein Echo zurückschallt.
