RIEGER RHODES QUARTET

Rieger Rhodes Quartet have founded by the Hungarian jazz guitarist Attila Rieger 3 years ago. This January they recorded their first album titled Long-lost Brothers. The CD contains 8 originals and 4 alternate takes. This material expresses the absence of self-centered attitude, the effortless stream of musical thoughts through letting go of the ego-controlled world that surrounds us. On this path evolving is ensured by spiritual and intellectual connections.

THE STORY COMMENCES WITH THOSE OLD VINYLS. Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by the sound that I knew so well from my father’s records. It wasn’t until much later that I found out most of those pieces of – mainly classical - music had been recorded simultaneously in acustic environment. As time went by and I got acquianted with jazz I re-experienced this sound. The music recorded on those albums was played by all musicians at the same time and space. Listening to this my imagination kept reviving the giants of jazz: Sonny Rollins, Hapton Hawes, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Ray Brown, Charlie Parker or the brasilian masters Jobim, Joao Gilberto with their bands. I must admit though that the cover photos enhanced this process tremendously. With this recording I wished to contribute to their tradition. I feel blessed that the harmony of our simultaneously playing instruments was born within the walls of the oh-so-inspirational, legendary studio in Rottembiller street.
