Chris Pitsiokos
is a New York-born, Berlin-based world-renowned saxophonist, improviser, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He has performed extensively in North and South America, Europe and Japan. Chris was praised by Rolling Stone for his "amazingly original vision" and "astonishingly fleet sax work." Downbeat describes his band CP Unit as "a compelling combination of harmonious jazz and contemporary noise rock". As a soloist, he has developed a unique voice on the alto saxophone: his expansion of the instrument's vocabulary has helped to multiply its emotional and formal possibilities. He has performed at dozens of major festivals around the world including: Wels Unlimited Festival/Austria, Sapporo International Arts Festival/Japan, Moers Festival, Tempo Reale Festival/Italy, Rewire Festival/Holland, Jazz Jantar Festival/Poland and Festival de Jazz Lima/Peru. In New York he presented his work at Roulette Intermedium, ISSUE Project Room and during a stay at John Zorn's club The Stone. Ronny Graupe has been playing nationally and internationally since the mid-1990s and is an integral part of the lively Berlin scene.
In many years of working with the trio Gropper/Graupe/Lillinger, as well as in his ensemble Ronny Graupes Spoom, appearing first as a trio and since 2018 as a quartet, he developed his own language on the guitar and as a composer. He has released over a dozen albums as a leader/co-leader and numerous as a sideman. In 2011 Ronny was appointed as a lecturer at the University of the Arts in Bern, Switzerland for jazz guitar and ensemble playing. In June 2021 he received the German Jazz Prize, which was awarded for the first time and initiated by the federal government, in the guitar category. He works with his own formations such as Off The Record (Dominik Bukowski-Vib, Phil Donkin-Bs, Oli Steidle-Dr), his trio Szelest (Lucia Cadotsch - Voc, Kit Downes - p), Spoom, the Schiepek - Graupe - Duo (with Philipp Schiepek - Git) and as a sideman in numerous other ensembles (Lucía Martinez, Hans Lüdemann, Dejan Terzic, Clara Vetter and others) In 2022 he founded his label OUT OF THE SHED. He played concerts in Asia, South and North America, Africa and Europe.
Kalle Kalima
is a Finnish jazz-rock guitarist who is best known for his versatility. In his oldest trio, Klima Kalima, he plays with Oliver Potratz, (bs) and Oliver Steidle, (drs). Among other things, the band won the New German Jazz Prize in 2008. At the moment he also performs regularly with groups Tenors of Kalma (with Jimi Tenor) and KUU! (with Christian Lillinger, Frank Möbus and Jelena Kuljic). The album “High Noon” featuring bassist Greg Cohen and drummer Max Andrzejewski” came out on Act Music in January 2016. He is a member of "A Novel of Anomaly" about the singer Andreas Schaerer. With Andreas Schaerer and Tim Lefebvre they will release a trio album in 2023. He is in demand as a guest player and has made music with Ensemble Resonanz, NDR Big Band, Jason Moran, Jim Black, Anthony Braxton, Leo "Wadada" Smith, Peter Brötzmann, Tony Allen and Tomasz Stanko, among others. In 2019 he composed the music theater piece “Dido and Aeneas, remembered” for Opera Lyon and Ruhrtriennale. Since September 2017 he has been a professor of jazz guitar at the University of Lucerne.
Oliver Bernd Steidle
studied music at the Nuremberg Conservatory and has lived in Berlin since 2000.
He is the founder of the free jazz band "SoKo Steidle" (5 CD releases so far), has been playing in the band "Der Rote area" since 2002 and composes and arranges in many other ensembles ("Klima Kalima", "Tama Trio" with Aki Takase, "Philm", "Narr/Steidle", "ILOG", "Off the Record" with Ronny Graupe).
He moves between the improvisation scene, the jazz scene and the music of contemporary composers and has worked with Michael Wertmüller/Ensemble Courage, Peter Brötzmann, Aki Takase, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Louis Sclavis, Trevor Dunn, Sean Bergin, Uli Gumpert and many more.
He is also the director and composer of his own ensembles Oli Steidle & the killing Popes and Oliwood
