Tom Brunt

Born in Geneva in 1989 to English and Dutch parents, Tom Brunt is a guitarist, composer, project
leader, and performer. Trained in Geneva (AMR, Jazz), Montreal (UDEM, Composition), and Lausanne
(HEMU, Master’s in Pedagogy), he studied with Vinz Vonlanthen, Maurice Magnoni, Ohad Talmor,
Sylvain Luc, and Miles Okazaki.
His approach, praised by the international press, combines contemporary improvisation with precise
writing, exploring the friction zones between contemporary jazz, improvised music, European folk,
and textures inspired by electronic music.
He has released four albums of original compositions with his ensembles Tom Brunt’s Acoustic Space,
Tom Brunt’s Extended Acoustics, and The Black Buoy Project, while also leading a solo electronic
project, Noisy Pocket. He also composes for film (Prayer for a Lost Mitten, 2020, awarded at
numerous festivals) and in contemporary contexts, and was selected in 2025 for the New York City
Electroacoustic Music Festival.
He also leads the Brunt/Marquez Quartet with Parisian saxophonist Melvin Marquez and is active as
a sideman, notably in the sextet Nuit of French saxophonist Louis Billette.

Geboren 1989 in Genf als Sohn englischer und niederländischer Eltern, ist Tom Brunt Gitarrist,
Komponist, Projektleiter und Interpret. Ausgebildet in Genf (AMR, Jazz), Montréal (UDEM,
Komposition) und Lausanne (HEMU, Master in Pädagogik), studierte er bei Vinz Vonlanthen, Maurice
Magnoni, Ohad Talmor, Sylvain Luc und Miles Okazaki.

Sein von der internationalen Presse gelobter Ansatz verbindet zeitgenössische Improvisation mit
präzisem Komponieren und erkundet die Reibungszonen zwischen zeitgenössischem Jazz,
improvisierter Musik, europäischem Folk und von elektronischer Musik inspirierten Klangtexturen.

Er hat vier Alben mit Originalkompositionen mit seinen Ensembles Tom Brunt’s Acoustic Space, Tom
Brunt’s Extended Acoustics und The Black Buoy Project veröffentlicht und führt zudem ein
elektronisches Soloprojekt, Noisy Pocket. Er komponiert außerdem für Film (Gebet für einen
verlorenen Fäustling, 2020, bei zahlreichen Festivals ausgezeichnet) und in zeitgenössischen
Kontexten und wurde 2025 für das New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival ausgewählt.

Er leitet zudem das Brunt/Marquez Quartet mit dem Pariser Saxophonisten Melvin Marquez und ist
als Sideman aktiv, unter anderem im Sextett Nuit des französischen Saxophonisten Louis Billette.

Tom Brunt’s Extended Acoustics et The Black Buoy Project, tout en menant un projet solo
électronique, Noisy Pocket. Il compose également pour le cinéma (Prière pour une mitaine perdue,
2020, primé dans de nombreux festivals) ou dans des contextes contemporains et a été sélectionné
en 2025 pour le New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival.
Il dirige aussi le Brunt/Marquez Quartet avec le saxophoniste parisien Melvin Marquez et est actif
comme sideman, notamment au sein du sextet Nuit du saxophoniste français Louis Billette.
